TMC College Proficiency in English Department organized debate competition for students between Pre-Intermediate and Upper-Intermediate levels. This kind of activities provide young learners the tools and opportunity to learn how to better express their ideas and improve their public speaking skills.
Debate is an intellectual sport which trains critical thinking, speaking skills and teamwork, whilst raising participants’ awareness of national and international issues. Debate is a very popular curricular and extracurricular activity in the UK and other Western countries. That’s why TMC College uses debate tournaments as one of their English teaching ways. Total 35 students participated , they were divided randomly into 12 teams. Each team had 3 members: Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and Speaker 3. 6 topics were prepared for these students, as:
1. Life with and without Mobile Phones.
2. Study abroad or study local?
3. Life experience or study in University?
4. Women and men rights are equal
All students were prepared well and had fun; they could make new friends , learn new words , gain confidence in front of people. But this was competition, so “Best Team” and “Best Speaker” got great prizes. Congratulations to Peyman from Iran, Elizabet from Russia and Coco from Malaysia. We are so proud of our students. They are so different , but they are with us to learn one language.
